Welcome to Anesthesiadotcalm's Education Center

The courses listed below are for people who have a fetish about taking courses on line or have nothing better to do with their lives than to sit in front of a computer and push buttons.  To my knowledge the material presented is accurate, at least by today's standards. To begin your studies just click on the name of the course. It’s just that simple. Oh, by the way, don’t expect continuing education credits for these courses. I tried to obtain credit for them but was told that this material is puerile and demeaning;that it contains gratuitous sexual innuendo, which the reviewers found degrading. So who's perfect?

The courses here are not free...but they’re cheap, at least by my standards. Each course costs $45.00. That’s about the cost of a tank–full of gas. Alright, so it is not cheap. Just think of the price as an investment into your future. Just CLICK HERE to enroll.

ANATOMY OF THE SPINAL CORD This monograph builds upon the practitioner’s basic knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the spinal column. The material focuses on the techniques of providing spinal anesthesia. It discusses in length the etiology of post dural puncture headache as it relates to needle size and type as well as cerebral spinal fluid loss. Concepts of specific gravity, density, baricity and osmolality are presented as they relate to spinal anesthesia. This material is perfect for practitioner who needs a strong didactic base from which to practice spinal anesthesia.

PHYSIOLOGY OF EPIDURAL ANESTHESIA This monograph examines the basics of electrical impulse propagation at the cellular level. Upon this foundation, the effects of local anesthetics on impulse propagation and information transfer in the nervous system will be considered. Theoretical aspects of analgesia and anesthesia resulting from the epidural injection of various drugs will also be presented. Finally, the effects of epidural analgesia on the major organ systems will be reviewed.

PHARMACOLOGY OF LOCAL ANESTHETICS Electrophysiology of the nerve cell is briefly discussed along with the theories of local anesthetic actions. The chemical structure of local anesthetics will be discussed in detail. Concepts of log and antilog will be reviewed and applied to the chemistry and structural activities of local anesthetics. Pharmacokinetics of local anesthetics to include ionization and protein binding will be examined. Lastly, system toxicity, drug interations and the mechanisms behind tachyphylaxis are presented.

ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY OF PREGNANCY This seven-lesson course offers a basic review of the anatomical and physiological changes in pregnancy. It is a must for the clinician wishing to practice obstetric anesthesia. Pathophysiology of the most common obstetric problems are discussed with special emphasis placed on the anesthetic management of patients with these problems. Stages of labor are also reviewed and the terms such as Friedman Curve and Montivideo units are discussed
